Chrysal Italy Wedding Event: Honoring Alfredo Corvi with the New Gerbera “Alfredo”
Last Friday, Chrysal was delighted to host the Chrysal Italy Wedding Event at our headquarters in Naarden. This inspiring day included workshops, factory tours, and insightful discussions on sustainability, but the highlight was the emotional naming ceremony of a new red Gerbera variety, “Alfredo,” in tribute to the late Italian florist Alfredo "Ave" Corvi.
Honoring Alfredo Corvi’s Legacy
Alfredo Corvi, known as "the florist of Varese," left a lasting impact on his community before passing away in 2021 due to COVID-19. To honor his legacy, a new red Germini Gerbera, created through a careful hybridization process by Dümmen Orange, was named “Alfredo.” At the ceremony, Alfredo’s brother Giovanni expressed his gratitude, remarking, “Few people can say they have a flower dedicated to them.” Organized by Charles Lansdorp, a close friend of Alfredo, the ceremony brought together family, friends, and industry leaders for an emotional celebration of Alfredo’s life and passion for flowers.
Sustainability in the Wedding Market
The Chrysal Italy Wedding Event also highlighted the importance of sustainability in the floral industry. Floral designers Bert Kuiper and Dini Holtrop presented the innovative "Flowerbar" concept, a customizable and eco-friendly approach to wedding floristry. Antonio Fracassi, country manager for MPS Italy, provided insights into advancements in sustainable flower growing within Italy, reinforcing Chrysal’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible practices.
A Symbolic Future for the “Alfredo” Gerbera
Currently, there are only about twenty specimens of the red Germini Alfredo, but by 2025, it is expected to be widely cultivated and available worldwide, including at Alfredo’s historic shop on Corso Matteotti. Alfredo’s memory will continue to live on in floral arrangements, accompanying joyful occasions around the world.
Reflecting on a Meaningful Event
The Chrysal Italy Wedding Event was a heartfelt tribute to Alfredo Corvi and an inspiring step forward in promoting sustainable practices in the wedding floral market. Chrysal thanks all who attended and made this day special. We look forward to continuing our support for the floral industry and driving sustainable solutions for the future.
