Towards a zero impact flower industry

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports are very clear: we all need to step up our efforts to have a sustainable future. While we have always been committed to reducing waste and water use, we started our Chrysal Cares CSR programme in 2009. Now we have put sustainability first and at the centre of our business strategy. We still have many challenges to overcome, but we are committed to build a truly sustainable business and flower industry. We want to help all our partners to reach their ambitions by providing sustainable solutions and technologies and also by sharing our knowledge and best practices.

Sustainability is an integral part of who we are and how we work. We bring added value to the sustainability ambitions of our customers. Together we strive to set the standard for sustainability in our industry. And we create a caring workplace for our employees.

We have a strong focus to reduce waste and water use for every stage in the horticultural chain, through our products, advice and protocols. This way we aim to be the most sustainable partner.

Working together with our partners to reach our ambitions: a truly sustainable business and industry

1. Fighting climate change

We aim to be climate neutral by 2030 and that is why we started to fully analyze our carbon footprint in 2019. We do this for all our products and operations in cooperation with Ecochain. It is important for us to know our impact on the environment as it will give direction for future product development and will provide us with insights in what ways we can help our customers with their sustainability goals.

2. Contributing to sustainable economy

The growing challenge of plastics in the environment means it is more urgent than ever to find more sustainable solutions. By 2030 we want to be at least 50% circular and in 2040 we aim to be 100% circular. In order to achieve that, we focus on having circular packaging, which is made entirely from non-virgin material and is fully recyclable or re-usable. Also, we will use only sustainably sourced ingredients, minimizing our waste and maintaining water quality.

3. Caring for employees and people

At Chrysal we care about people. We create a caring workplace for our employees by considering their health and safety a high priority and our responsibility. We also focus on improving equality and diversity. Furthermore, we support local communities by contributing to their health and education and by supporting local development.

4. Towards a positive environmental impact

By fighting climate change and contributing to a sustainable economy, we eliminate any negative effects we have on the environment as a business. But we aim to take that one step further and also positively contribute to the environment we depend upon, by supporting biodiversity and enabling sustainable land & water use.
